A dive into endgame's success

The latest Avengers movie was a massive success, but for all the wrong reasons. Read more to find out why I believe Endgame reflects the decay of our culture.

Intro

I am going to be straight up about why Endgame is such a bad movie.

Mind you, I have not seen the movies preceding this one, but within an hour I already put the pieces together.

Within an hour, I already had a solid understanding of the whole story, sequence and what is more, I already anticipated how the whole thing is going to end.

Let me tell you this, Endgame is a disaster because if one is able to grasp the full lore and storyline of the sequel within an hour of the last movie, that means the movie and the sequel altogether is bad.

It means the directors willingly directed the movie this way. For views.

The ugly image of Endgame and the superhero movies that go along with it – many effects and a cheap storyline.

The sad truth

Directors nowadays are willing to sacrifice storylines for viewability. Movies are made easy to grasp for the purpose of exposure and large box offices at the expense of meaning, depth and impact.

simplicity is killing motion picture

If you think about it, the main theme of the movie is as simplistic, primal and relatable as you can get – good versus evil. That’s it! No more depth to it at all.

Do you know why?

Because simplicity brings a uniform understanding and a uniform understanding throughout countries and cultures around the globe brings views and ticket sales. That’s the truth.

And directors are making an absolute bank out of it

Nowadays, this is the formula for movie success – the most basic of all themes, little storyline and dialogue, lots of effects, a few hot chicks and you have a blockbuster.

And the worst thing is, this trend is unlikely to change. Superhero movies keep thriving and coming out every year at a rapid pace.

THE RESULT?

A generation of weak men and a cinema industry that has nothing to contribute to today’s culture.

When I was young I had many role models from movies. I looked up to Rocky because of his ambition and work ethic. Frodo because of his courage and virtue of friendship. Jeff Lebowski for his light-heartedness and relaxed demeanor.

I looked up to them because of their qualities and the lessons they taught me. Who can kids look up to these days? Iron Man because he has a cool-ass outfit with many gadgets and laser beams coming out of his bum?

Even if I didn’t look up to some movie characters, at least I had something to learn from them. Example – Travis Bickle from ‘Taxi Driver’, Henry Hill from ‘Goodfellas’, Frank Serpico from ‘ Serpico’.

What can one learn from the Avengers? Nothing.

So why are superhero movies like Endgame so successful?

We live in an era dominated by what Simon Sinek calls ‘instant gratification’. In an instant, we have access to whatever we want – food delivered to our home, instant communication, easily accessible pornography, information on the world wide web, you name it.

We get everything with the blink of an eye. People demand simplicity. And while the market creates demand for simplicity, superhero movies with superficial screenplay and simple themes will thrive.

In an era dominated by simplicity, people do not appreciate the depth of the storylines or impactful dialogues. We no longer want to learn from the perspectives on life motion picture has to offer us because we think we know it all. The movie industry has simply responded to the market dynamics and is now a mere supplier of simplistic entertainment.

Endgame reflects a weak generation that seeks instant gratification. We no longer uphold deep long-lasting values, as we seek what is instantaneous. We want the simple life, with little to no resistance or dare I say challenge. Our spirituality has suffered a great deal.
